WYD 2002 - a retrospective: the World invades the Church

If any country hosting World Youth Day could possibly improve the 'performance', in the sense of conforming it more to the authentic mind of the Church, it is probably Poland. The proof, as they say, is in "the pudding." My hunch is that the sorts of concerns raised by John Vennari will be dismissed as a failure to apprehend what the 'Spirit' of the thing, whatever that is.

Nothing must be more detestable for young people than these desperate attempts to be 'cool' (a long outmoded concept) by the likes of this idiot theologian. These youth days haven't all been disastrous. Bob Dylan, despite then Cardinal Ratzinger's reservations (caused by the mendacious 'spirit of Bob Dylan' narrative prevalent in the mainstream media, most likely), provided a respectful and professional performance in front of Pope John Paul II in 1997.

Those clicking on the link would benefit from reading the entry on Wednesday because it contains The Dutch Key for decoding the Dutch nouns used in the post you linked.

When the going gets weird the weird get going.

Thanks for the boost, P.P.

Very interesting... but I also have to comment that for most people what they will hear is an old white guy saying, "Ugh! Rock music! T shirts! Casual comportment!!" instead of the substantial perspective behind those convulsions. Also, for anyone familiar with either AmChurch or Euro-Firednly culture, this all just seems extremely like more of the same. Unless Bishop Fellay were to hijack the proceedings, what else would we expect?
